Alice Pyne who has terminal cancer, has become a Twitter trend after writing a blog for her friends and family. Her mum encouraged Alice to create a ‘bucket list’ of things she wants to experience before she dies. The 15 year old has attracted worldwide attention as her bucket list became one of the most Tweeted subjects on the social media site.
Alice has been battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma for four years but the cancer is now taking it’s toll. Alice says:
I’ve been fighting cancer for almost four years now and I know the cancer is gaining on me and it doesn’t look like I am going to win this one.
Thousands of Twitter users, including celebrities Rio Ferdinand, Channing Tatum and Philip Schofield have used the hashtag #alicebucketlist to spread the word, pushing the trend towards the top of the list worldwide.
Some users believe-mistakenly-that one of the items on her ‘bucket list’ was to trend on Twitter. However, the term was made famous in the 2020 film which starred Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson as terminally ill men who decided to make a list of ambitions they wanted to fulfil before “kicking the bucket”. Alice’s list makes no reference to Twitter.
Among the items on her list which are achievable are a visit to Cadbury World, to stay in a caravan, to have a back massage and to make everyone sign up to be a bone marrow donor, which may happen thanks to the global attention received. Other wishes like going to Kenya sadly won’t happen, as Alice can’t leave the country now.
Alice wants to tick things off her list as she achieves them, saying:
Mum always tells me that life is what we make it and so I’m going to make the best of what I have and because there were so many things I still wanted to do.
